Introduction of Coins
1930-S cents are common across all grades, and even fully red gems are plentiful. Many of these coins, such as the one illustrated, may exhibit moderate die erosion, and these should be avoided. Sharp pieces may be found with a bit of searching. This is another issue that was not released in its entirely until a few years after minting, and it helped to launch the BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) roll market that so dominated the popular hobby for the next several decades. Several minor varieties are known for 1930-S, but the best one is listed at left.Read More
