This half-dollar was among several Breast Cancer Awareness coins released by the US Mint in 2018. (Meanwhile, gold proof and uncirculated $5 versions were celebrated as the first pink-hued gold coin released by the Mint.) A $5 surcharge from the sale of these half dollar coins was designated to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York.
