1908-D dimes are plentiful in all grades through MS 64. True gems are a bit elusive, but not rare. Survivors typically are well struck and display good luster. This issue is a variety hunter's dream, with several misplaced dates and nearly a dozen repunched dates. While most of these are quite minor, enough good ones are known to form a nice collection in themselves. A repunched mintmark variety is also known, but this is too slight to elicit much interest. All dies were prepared at the Philadelphia Mint, and it's not surprising that these blundered dies would be distributed to the various mints randomly. All of this came to an end in 1909, when the U. S. Mint began punching the year's date only once into a single obverse master die from which all working hubs and working dies were then generated.Mehr lesen
