Einführung von Münzen

By 1952 the proof sets of 1950-51 had already risen in price, as more collectors were drawn to the series. This prompted higher sales in 1952, the final mintage advancing about 50% over the previous year.  Gems having a fully brilliant finish on fields and devices are plentiful, and a number of examples have slightly frosted devices on one or both sides. Coins having enough contrast on both sides to be designated as Cameo are scarce, while Ultra Cameo proofs are extremely rare for this date.  The Wexler/Flynn book on Washington Quarter doubled-dies lists and illustrates two DDR varieties. One is distinctive enough to be collectable, while the other is extremely minor. Another oddity that has gained a strong following is the so-called Superbird quarter. It display a raised line in the shape of letter S on the eagle's breast, and this reminds some of Superman's uniform. This is just a lint impression from a cloth used to wipe the die, something quite commonly seen on proof coins, though normally found without this coin's distinctive shape.Mehr lesen
