Einführung von Münzen
As in 1860 the Philadelphia Mint struck 1,000 silver proof sets in anticipation of whatever orders would be received during the course of the year. This proved highly optimistic, and some 600 sets were later melted. This is another date that is rare in gem condition and with Cameo contrast. The slender rim of this coin type offered little protection from high point abrasion, which is often seen on the shield and the ribs of the obverse star. A repunched date variety is reported for 1861, but the photos are more suggestive of simple strike doubling.Mehr lesen
