This is another plentiful issue in Mint State, and most survivors have decent luster. Weak strikes, however, have the dual effect of leaving the centers incomplete and exposing planchet marks that failed to be smoothed by the dies. On the coin illustrated, these unstruck areas of rough planchet are seen on Jefferson's jaw and the steps of Monticello.
