This issue had a modest mintage and a very high attrition rate for those that entered circulation. By the time collecting this series became popular in the mid 1930s, most 1914 D nickels had become dateless through wear. Mint State survive in sufficient numbers that they are readily available in grades short of the gem (MS 65) level. Most are less than fully struck, but this isn't as big a problem as it would become just a few years later. It appears that one of the several 1914/3 dies was shipped to Denver, but the resulting coins are extremely difficult to discern.Mehr lesen
