This final date of the half dime series was coined only with the Closed 3 used early in the year. This denomination was abolished by law after April 1, but it's likely that the Mint continued to sell proofs for a few months until the remaining pieces were melted July 10. The 1873 proof half dime is not especially scarce, but examples grading higher than PF 65 are elusive, as are those having Ultra Cameo contrast.Mehr lesen
