Einführung von Münzen
Though the mintage of this issue was not particularly small, examples are very scarce across all grades. The West was hard money country, and these coins saw extensive circulation for decades. Mint State pieces are very rare, and XF or AU specimens are likewise seldom seen. Five die marriages are known from four obverses and five reverses. All feature the Large S mintmark typical of early San Francisco coinage. Given the low production figures, it's likely that these included reverse dies shipped in 1854-55. The only variety of known is a spectacular one: The normal Large S was punched over a much smaller one intended for another denomination. This popular variety is quite rare, and no Mint State examples have survived.Mehr lesen
