The 1859-O quarter dollar is fairly plentiful in the lower circulated grades, but it becomes scarce above Very Fine. Mint State examples are genuinely rare, with gems being extremely so. There were just two dies pairs that produced this modest mintage, at least that's how many have been identified. Both feature Type 1 obverses and reverses, as only the Philadelphia Mint struck enough coins to dip into dies taken from the newer hubs.
