With the post-war recession lifting and another war brewing in Korea, the production of cents at the San Francisco Mint finally began to rise this year. As with all S-Mint cents of the 1940s and '50s, the number of pieces certified in top grades is a bit misleading. These coins typically reveal worn dies that produced very bright, shimmering luster which hides contact marks and makes the coins quite appealing overall. The real challenge will be to find an example that is sharply struck, as well. Such coins are slightly more available for 1950-S than for the several years preceding. Numerous repunched mintmark varieties are known for this issue, but most are quite trivial and of interest to series specialists.Mehr lesen
