The 1842 Large Letters is a very scarce issue that represents the minority of P-mint Half Eagle production for the year, initially 27,578 pieces, being struck months after the initial delivery of its Small Letters counterpart. It can be distinguished from the Small Letters variety by the closer spacing on the reverse peripheral legends.
