Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pseudonym Mark Twain, was born in Florida, MO on November 30th, 1835. There are few American authors who have influenced the nation's culture more than Twain. Almost all of his books are still and print and have been translated into 75 languages. His books offer a window into the tumultuous period following the Civil War and show the vast economic inequalities of the Gilded Age. In honor of Mark Twain's impact on the country and its culture, Congress authorized the minting of up to 100,000 gold $5 pieces and 500,000 silver dollars. The coins both feature Twain on the obverse, and have scenes from some of his most famous works on the reverse (and on the obverse as well on the silver dollars.)Leer más
