Denver coined roughly the half the number of dimes it had in 1918, and circulated examples of the 1919-D dime are fairly scarce above the grade of Very Good. Mint State pieces are likewise elusive, with gems being rare. Those having Full Bands are especially difficult to find. Peripheral weakness and eroded dies are the rule for most 1919-D dimes. Also common, as with all D-Mint coins from this period, are obvious die cracks. Some of these technical problems may be explained by the large numbers of coins produced per die at the Denver Mint. Records show that it struck an average of 196,776 dimes per obverse die and 264,094 per reverse. Of course, some reverse dies remained usable from the previous year, and the figures above are per the number of new dies shipped to Denver, so the actual per-die total for reverses may have been lower.Leer más
