The fairly high mintage of dimes at the San Francisco Mint in 1920 was sufficient to meet the needs of commerce in the West throughout the recession years of 1921-22. Indeed, it was not until the second half of 1923 that production resumed, and that year's total was less than half the number coined in 1920. 1923-S dimes were hoarded from circulation as a semi-key date during the 1930s-50s, but such coins were almost invariably worn down to Very Good or lower. Uncleaned, problem-free examples grading Fine and higher are elusive, and Mint State survivors are very scarce. Few of these coins will display Full Bands. The decade of the 1920s was a time of austerity at the three mints, and dies were used far too long, producing poorly struck coins with many blurred or missing details.Leer más
