This is another issue that is very elusive in Mint State. Gems are quite rare, and this is especially true of examples displaying Full Bands. Worn dies and a general softness of strike are all too often seen on 1927-S dimes. The coin illustrated displays brilliant patches on either side of Liberty's portrait from a vigorous polishing of the die to remove clash marks and/or die erosion lines. Well worn 1927-S dimes grading less than VF are not rare, as collectors tended to hoard all S-Mint coins of the 1920s when found in circulation. This practice developed after the introduction of inexpensive coin boards in 1935 broadened the coin hobby beyond those who wanted only Mint State pieces.Leer más
