This is one of the more available San Francisco Mint dimes of the 1920s, only 1929-S being more common. Most are less than fully struck, however, and coins certified as Full Bands are distinctly in the minority. Circulated pieces are reasonably common through grade XF, probably as a result of the hoarding experienced for all S-Mint coins of this decade. Two sizes of mintmark were applied to reverse dies for this issue. The usual, Small S mintmark is by far the more common, while the Large S variety (photos) is very scarce. Study of its rarity is still ongoing, but it now seems that fewer than 5% of 1928-S dimes bear the Large S, which was not used at all for any other date in this series.Leer más
