Dime coinage had resumed at the New Orleans Mint just the previous year, after a 30-year hiatus. There must have been pent up demand, as nearly four million dimes were struck of the new type in 1892. Though a fair number of these coins were saved as souvenirs for their novelty, the number of coin collectors in the South was far below that of the Northeast. Consequently, Mint State survivors are far less available than for the Philadelphia issue, with gems being truly rare. Most of these are reasonably well struck. A couple of repunched date varieties are known, but only one of these is obvious enough to elicit collector interest. A minor repunched mintmark variety is also noted.Leer más
