The small number of dimes struck at San Francisco in 1892 called for stepped up production this year, and 1893-S is only slightly scarce in lower grades. At the upper circulated grades and in Mint State it becomes very elusive. Gems are quite rare, though there are enough certified for the most advanced collectors. This issue is rich in varieties, though most are minor. Two each are known of repunched dates and repunched mintmarks. The only significant variety possesses both features, though the repunching of the date is too slight to note on the grading label. The mintmark, however, was first punched far to the east of normal and then corrected. Both mintmarks remain distinct, and this variety is highly sought.Leer más
