With no new coin types to stir proof sales, these fell to their lowest point in the entire Barber series. Collector dissatisfaction with the all-brilliant finish typical since 1902 certainly contributed to such dismal results. Despite its slightly lower mintage, the 1914 proof dime is not as rare as the 1915 proof. Cameo proofs are very rare, as few examples of this date show any but the faintest degree of contrast. In addition, many coins reveal more than the usual degree of mishandling, perhaps due to hoarding by speculators, for whom this date has always been a darling. The coin illustrated is a very rare exception in that it reveals excellent contrast and surfaces.Leer más
