With an estimated 80 to 100 pieces known in Uncirculated, the 1871-S is one of the most available mintmarked Type Two Double Eagles struck prior to 1873. Most of the Uncirculated examples have similar characteristics, that is, they are noticeably abraded and with average striking quality.
