The speculative fever over modern proof sets continued its march in 1955, as the Mint experienced a more than 50% increase in sales over 1954. New packaging was introduced midyear in the form of a pliofilm packet that held and displayed all five coins and was shipped in an envelope. This replaced the earlier packaging of single cellophane sleeves stapled together and placed inside a square box. This improved the survival rate of gems. Also more available for 1955 than earlier years are Cameo and Ultra Cameo proofs. A very appealing tripled-die reverse variety is known for 1955 nickels, as well as a lesser doubled-die reverse.Leer más
