This issue is moderately scarce across all grades. Examples in the higher circulated grades of XF and AU are very difficult to find and command good prices. Mint State pieces of so-so quality are more available than the modest mintage suggests, and it's conceivable that some of these coins remained in vautls for a few years, as later dates were issued first. This phenomenon applied to several Denver Mint coins of the 1920s, most notably to the 1926 D nickels and quarters. Fully struck 1924 D nickels are all but unknown, and the weakness shown in the bison's forehead on the example illustrated is characteristic of this issue. The book by Wexler, Pope and Flynn illustrates three repunched mintmark varieties.Leer más
