Despite its modest mintage, the 1928 D nickel is plentiful in Mint State grades. A portion of this mintage sat idle during the early years of the Great Depression, only to be issued several years later when the recovering economy finally emptied these vaults. For a time in the late 1930s and early 40s it seemed that every coin dealer in the Midwest had a good stock of this issue. 1928 D nickels are never fully struck, though they rarely show the extreme weakness of D-Mint nickels coined earlier in the decade. The luster on these coins is generally good to excellent, and the number of certified gems is higher than one would expect for a 1920s coin of such mintage.Leer más
