HALF DIME
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Introducción de monedas
It's not certain whether the 1838 O half dimes were coined in that year or early in 1839, and it's likely that production was spread over both years. Even though the Philadelphia Mint half dime dies had been retrofitted with hand punched stars months earlier, no replacement obverse dies were sent to New Orleans, which proceeded to use its original allotment of starless dies. The low mintage of this issue, combined with New Orleans' great distance from the centers of art and culture, precluded collectors from saving Mint State examples of the 1838 O half dime. It is thus quite rare unworn, and even heavily worn pieces are scarce enough to command a good premium.Leer más
