Production of quarter dollars at the New Orleans Mint rose from 1855, with just under a million examples produced. Mint State survivors are very scarce, as are those just lightly worn. Most are reasonably well struck when compared to other O-Mint quarters of the period. Larry Briggs reported that 12 obverse dies and six reverses were shipped to the New Orleans Mint for 1856. The lower number of reverse dies reflects the fact that usable dies of previous years did not become obsolete at the turn of the calendar. Only minor varieties have been found of the several dies identified, and these are of interest only to series specialists.Leer más
