Introducción de monedas
Not surprisingly, it took just a single pair of dies to produce this issue's low mintage. A Type 2 obverse was combined with a Type 1 reverse, probably an old die from the earlier shipments of 1854-57. Production of quarter dollars at the San Francisco Mint was so low that reverse dies lasted for years. At one time thought to be non-existent in Mint State, just a couple of such coins are now known for 1860-S. Nearly the entire surviving population, low overall, is restricted to heavily worn coins. Most of these show damage and/or bad cleaning, and attractive specimens in circulated grades bring big premiums over such problem coins. The 1860-S quarter dollar is easily among the very greatest challenges to completing this series.Leer más
