San Francisco's output of quarter dollars rose dramatically in 1875, but it would pale in comparison to that of the following year. Five die marriages have been identified from the use of four each obverse and reverse dies (Obverse 2 was used with both Reverses B and C). Reverse A displays the Small, Squat S used previously in 1873-74, while Reverse B has the Small S of earlier dates 1866-73. Reverses C and D introduced a new, Medium S that would become very familiar over the next few years. These new dies were taken from the Type 2 hub with separation between letters TAT of STATES. Larry Briggs observed that this issue tends to be poorly struck. It is somewhat scarce in all circulated grades, with XF and higher grades through Mint State being moderately rare. Several gems have been certified, and these satisfy the demand from advanced collectors of this series.Leer más
