The rarity of currency strikes dated 1867(P) long made the proof of this year a highly sought coin for those attempting to complete a high grade collection of Seated Liberty Quarter Dollars. Now that both MS and PF coins are sought primarily by type collectors, the premium attached to this date has leveled off with other, more common dates. Still, it is a scarce issue in either format at the gem level. As with the currency striking, a single (but different) die pair was used for the entire mintage. Walter Breen reported that prooflike Mint State coins of this date and 1866 had been found within complete proof sets of those years. While impossible to prove now that such sets have all been dispersed as single, certified coins, it remains a plausible possibility.Leer más
