Introducción de monedas

The 1868 quarter dollar followed the pattern of other Philadelphia Mint issues since 1863. Its mintage was low, and most of these piece did not see domestic circulation when new. It's possible that some returned from circulation overseas (beginning in 1870 Canada commenced a program to expel the millions of USA silver coins in use there). Others were probably shipped to Britain, only to be rendered into bullion. With silver coins still worth more than their equivalent face value in paper money, they could not circulate at par until the price of silver began to fall in the mid 1870s. Well worn examples do exist, but Mint State pieces survive in disproportionate availability to them. In actual numbers, however, both are rare.Leer más
