Introducción de monedas

The demand for additional quarter dollars from the San Francisco Mint was low in 1892, as the previous year's production of more than two million pieces had not been fully distributed. This has led to the 1892-S quarter becoming a fairly scarce coin within the Barber series. Had this not been the first year of issue, survivors would be even more elusive, but a certain number were saved in Mint State for their novelty. Still, gems are very rare. The two reverse hub types used for 1892 quarters are evident on the 1892-S quarters, too, but in this instance Type 1 is the more often seen. It's likely that the modest mintage didn't use up the first batch of dies quickly, and the second shipment was not truly needed. All 1892-S quarters have their mintmark centered directly under the eagle's tail feathers, a position unique to this date, as it led to premature chipping of the die in that area. A couple of doubled-die reverses are noted for this issue, along with a minor repunched date and a more distinctive repunched mintmark. Were it not for the overall scarcity of 1892-S quarters, the RPM variety would be more popular than it is.Leer más
