The Treasury's surplus of older quarter dollars was finally drawn down to the point that production could advance in 1890. While this year's mintage is small in a relative sense, it is quite large as compared to those of the previous decade. Two die pairs were employed, though neither resulted in a collectable variety. Perhaps because of the stepped-up production, 1890 quarters were not as well made as those of the 1880s. Liberty's head and the stars may be incomplete. Also unlike quarters of the '80s, worn examples are more common than Mint State coins. This further points to the conclusion that these coins were indeed make for general circulation.Leer más
