Introducción de monedas

The Depression of 1893-97 finally caught up with quarter dollar production, and the number of pieces struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1895 fell from the previous year. This was a preview of the far more drastic decline that was to occur in 1896. This issue is scarce in all but the lowest grades, and values rise rapidly from Fine upward. Mint State coins are not truly rare, except at the gem (MS 65 and higher) levels. As with all S-Mint quarters of this decade, prooflike examples may be found, but most are not distinctive enough to be certified as such. David Lawrence identified six reverse dies, only one of which features a centered mintmark. The latter position is thus quite rare, with approximately one in 15 examples seen. Two repunched mintmark varieties are known for 1895-S. Both are fairly intriguing, yet the scarcity and higher value of this date somewhat discourages variety collecting.Leer más
