The relatively low mintage of this issue has made it scarce in all grades. It would be even more rare in XF and AU, were it not for some repatriated pieces that formerly circulated in The Philippines before 1903, when that American possession acquired its own unique coinage. Most of the 1899-S quarters returned to the USA were cleaned at some point with varying degrees of success, and original, problem-free examples are rare. Mint State specimens are very rare, making this among the most difficult issues of the series to find unworn. The only variety of note is a repunched date on which the second 9 is clearly doubled at its bottom.Leer más
