Introducción de monedas

This date is not as common as its mintage suggests, and it's likely that some of 1821's mintage included pieces dated 1820. There is a fairly generous certified population of Mint State pieces, at least by the standard of early quarters. A few of these are gems and bring commensurately high prices. Some six deliveries of quarter dollars were made to the Treasurer from April through December. The largest of these was dated October 15, 1821 and included 106,691 coins. It's tempting to believe that the six deliveries each accounted for one of the six known die marriages, but there is no way to prove this. Three obverse dies were combined with five reverses, with Obverse 1 used for three of these. There are no "Red Book" varieties for 1821, this being a generic term for any variety that has earned its own line item in R. S. Yeoman's A Guide Book of United States Coins. The rare B-6 variety, of which only about half a dozen pieces are known, is thus of interest only to specialists. B-2 and B-5 are scarce, the remaining entries being fairly common.Leer más
