Without any new coin types to create enthusiasm, sales of the U. S. Mint's proofs plunged to their lowest level since these coins were first offered publicly in 1858! While collectors seem to have taken little notice of this decline at the time, in later decades there were many hoarders of 1914 and 1915 proofs. This only increased their scarcity in the marketplace, and the 1914 proof quarter dollar has carried a premium over other dates in the series since the 1950s. The number of pieces certified is in line with several dates of lower mintage, but this may reflect increased submissions of the same coins due to their higher value. Cameo examples are very scarce but available to the advanced collector.Leer más
