The very modest mintage of 1915 proof quarters, though somewhat higher than that for 1914, has made it the scarcest proof issue in the Barber Quarter series. Gems are particularly elusive, and Cameo proofs are exceedingly rare. It's unlikely than any 1915 quarter will be certified as Ultra Cameo. Since it was anticipated that the new Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar of 1916 would be ready for production much earlier than it was, the U. S. Mint did not strike any coins of this denomination until well into that year. Proof coins historically were made very early in each year, and so the three silver issues slated for replacement were not struck as proofs, making 1916 the only date of the Barber Quarter series not available in this format.Leer más
