Like all Walking Liberty Half Dollars of the period, this issue was widely saved by the roll when new, so Mint State examples are plentiful. Most, however, are quite poorly struck, revealing abrasions on their high points that were actually in the planchet prior to striking and failed to be smoothed out by the dies. Even so, the population of certified gems is high through MS-65. The numbers fall off rapidly above that grade. A couple of extremely minor DDR varieties are noted, but these have attracted little interest. Several RPMs are known for 1944-S, all of them on coins having the Large, Serif S. The Trumpet-Tail S was also used for 1944-S halves, but this style seems to be a bit scarcer.Leer más
