Introducción de monedas
In response to the Specie Resumption Act, the Carson City Mint struck more than a million half dollars this year, by far it's largest production to date. This issue is common across most grades, becoming somewhat scarce in grades XF and AU. Mint State coins are not common, but they in numbers sufficient to satisfy the demand from advanced collectors of this series. They seem to be more consistently well struck than their Philadelphia cousins. Superintendent James Crawford requested and received 12 obverse and seven reverse dies for 1875-CC half dollars. The Carson City Mint evidently did not prepare its dies or collars properly for coining, as the failure rate for its dies was higher than for the other two mints. Many of these coins are seen with die cracks that led to premature retirement of the dies. A dozen die marriages are known from various combinations of nine obverse and five reverse dies. All 1875-CC halves display a Medium CC mintmark which debuted this year and would predominate through the end of half dollar coinage in 1878. There are only positional varieties to collect, and these are of little interest to anyone but series specialists. All half dollars of this issue have 154 edge reeds.Leer más
