This issue had the largest mintage of any in the Seated Liberty Half Dollar series, and it is very common across all grades. There are a number of gem survivors for both the date and type collector. Most 1876(P) halves were well made, though some will show a bit of weakness at Liberty's head and the eagle's right leg and claw. Some 14 die marriages were cataloged by Wiley and Bugert from an equal number of obverse and reverse dies. Given this issue's high production, more will undoubtedly be found. Three collars are known, these having either 144, 155 or 156 reeds. A slightly modified reverse hub was introduced this year, and dies taken from either old and new hubs were used for 1876(P) half dollars. Coins having the Type 2 reverse, with the lower branch bud closed, are slightly more scarce, but the difference is not great enough to command a premium.Leer más
