The mintage of half dollars in 1882 receded significantly from the previous year, yet this issue is not measurably more scarce. Mint State coins are plentiful in relation to the overall production, and both PL and DPL coins have been certified. With such a low mintage, the dies lost only a little of their original brilliance, and most survivors have reflective fields to some degree. Worn coins are scarce but have been certified across a broad range of grades. A single pair of dies is known for the currency strikes. While some references cite both the old (1866-77) and new (1876-91) reverse hubs as existing for some dates in the early 1880s, it appears to be only proofs that were struck using older dies. Since the line between proofs and deeply reflective currency pieces is often blurred, such confusion was inevitable. All 1882 half dollar have 156 edge reeds.Leer más
