Despite a mintage of only 600 pieces, no fewer than three die pairs were used for proof 1869 dimes. One of these features a normal 1 in its date, the so-called Short Flag variety. The other two obverses display the Long Flag on which both the left base and the flag of numeral are greatly extended. Though the rarities of these three die marriages vary, there is no premium associated with proof varieties. Cameo proofs are very scare, while Ultra Cameo examples are extremely rare. From 1868 onward, both proofs and currency strikes show broken areas in letters S(TATES) and O(F), due to deterioration of the obverse master hub.En savoir plus
