ONE DIME
Introduction des pièces de monnaie
With its sizable mintage, the 1887 S dime is the first entry from the San Francisco Mint since 1877 to be readily available to collectors across a broad range of grades. The biggest issue in finding a suitable piece will be striking deficiencies. Most are weakly struck at Liberty's head, and the partially filled mintmark seen on the coin illustrated is quite prevalent on S-Mint dimes dated 1887-91. Some 20 die marriages are noted for 1887 S, and a few of these have repunched or misplaced dates. Of greater general interest, however, are the repunched mintmark varieties. In the past they have been labeled as Large S over Small S, but it is currently believed that all such varieties for 1887 S are merely repunchings of the same letter.En savoir plus
