Though the 1873 weight standard was continued through 1964, the distinguishing arrowheads were dropped after 1874. There had never really been a need for them, as the earlier issues were so similar that they circulated side-by-side with the new coins, once silver returned to general circulation in 1876. Two die pairs produced the 700 proof dimes of 1875. One obverse features very minor repunching, but this is of interest only to the most committed specialists. So-so quality is the rule for proof coins of this decade, with isolated areas of incomplete striking a recurring problem. Though a fair number of Cameo examples have been certified, any coin displaying Ultra Cameo contrast is a real rarity.En savoir plus
