The scarcity of this and other early proof three-cent pieces is largely lost to those collecting by type alone, as the later dates are much more abundant. Only 625 proofs of the 1867 issue can be confirmed, as these were included within that number of silver proof sets. How many additional pieces, if any, were sold is unknown. The Mint's policy at that time discouraged the sale of singles or minor sets, but this would change under later directorships.En savoir plus
