Introduction des pièces de monnaie

Despite a very substantial mintage, the 1835 half dollar is less often seen in Mint State than the several preceding dates, though there are a great many "near miss" examples. Gems of this issue are quite scarce. It's likely that some portion of the 1835 coinage included pieces dated 1834 or even 1833. The U. S. Mint was not particular about such matters when the dies remained serviceable, and it was until Mint Director Robert M. Patterson assumed office during 1835 that this practice was finally stopped. All 1835 half dollars were coined from dies featuring the new bust of 1834, in combination with the Small Date and Small Letters likewise introduced in 1834. As a consequence, there are no popular varieties, and none of the ten die marriages are scarce. These resulted from the pairing of eight obverse dies with a like number of reverses.En savoir plus
