Introduction des pièces de monnaie
Proof coin sales dropped from those of 1901, and a contributing factor may have been the near total lack of frosting on the raised devices and legends for 1902 proofs. This replacement of frosted relief with satiny relief lasted through 1907 and then slowly recovered over the next several years, probably as a result of collector dissatisfaction. Gems of the 1902 proof half dollar are a bit more scarce than for the several preceding years. Certified Cameo pieces are extremely rare. The new obverse hub that debuted on the currency strikes in 1901 was applied to the proofs of 1902. This is most easily distinguished by a complete resculpting of Liberty's ear, but also evident is a slight reduction in the width of the raised rim relative to the denticulated border.En savoir plus
