Introduction des pièces de monnaie
Though most coin collectors of the 1890s were in the Northeast or upper Midwest and thus saved Philadelphia Mint 1892 half dollars, it seems that a fair number of 1892-O halves were saved as souvenirs of the new type by non-numismatists. This low-mintage issue is thus over-represented in grades of XF, AU and MS. Precious few, however, are gems, and the 1892-O half dollar is rare above MS-64. Circulated coins grading Good through Very Fine are very elusive, as once this issue entered general circulation it stayed there until the coin board craze of the 1930s led to removal of the severely worn coins still to be found. Unlike like many later O-Mint halves, this first year tends to be well struck. Improper cleaning is the biggest deterrent to finding a suitable example. The only variety known for 1892-O half dollars is the extremely rare Micro O, and this is treated separately in the entry that follows.En savoir plus
