Gems of the 1893-O half dollar are very scarce, but coins grading as high as MS-64 are often available. Many of these may have the weakness so common to New Orleans coins, and this is most evident at the tail feathers and the claw grasping arrows. Circulated examples are quite scarce in grades F through XF, though AU pieces are not hard to find. A lot of these have been mishandled over that years and may fail to achieve numeric grades. The standout variety for this issue is a misplaced date (MPD). The top of a numerical 3 is embedded within the denticles below numerals 93 of the date.
