The 1909-S half dollar typically was well made, with a good strike and nice luster. A few pieces have been seen with "mumps," a sinking of the obverse die in the area of Liberty's neck and jaw from die erosion and, possibly, improper hardening of the die. Gems are very elusive, but circulated examples are only moderately scarce below XF and AU. On one reverse die the mintmark appears to have been punched upside down, and this is a collectible variety.En savoir plus
